smarts go into the healthcare field

March 2005

An imaginative decision by Springfield HomeCare (a subsidiary of Springfield Healthcare Group), combined with efficient and committed service from Daimler Fleet Management (DFM) and smart of York dealership, has resulted in elderly and vulnerable residents of Leeds being visited by care workers driving characterful smart fortwos.

With 30 smart cars already having being delivered, the Springfield HomeCare fleet is set to rise to 150 in the next 12 months. Domiciliary HomeCare provision in the city is being given a new dynamic image and Springfield’s highly professional carers the ideal vehicles for their work. DFM is funding the fleet under two-year contract purchase agreements with option to buy, part of a comprehensive fleet management package that also includes servicing, maintenance and insurance through Daimler Insurance Services.

Noel Baden-Thomas, Chief Executive of Springfield HomeCare, said that smart of York and DFM were providing his organisation with a fleet that reflected the fast-moving, efficient and friendly service that Springfield always aimed to provide. ‘The smart fortwo is ideal for city traffic and is also a powerful motivator for recruiting and retaining the highest quality staff. Additionally, low CO2 emission levels and low fuel consumption make it an environmentally friendly option for urban driving. We are delighted with our choice of vehicle and appreciate the high quality Daimler Group support that is helping us to achieve our fleet objectives.’

Springfield HomeCare is contracted by Leeds City Council to provide domiciliary home care services in Leeds and the surrounding areas. As one of the market leaders in the this fast growing sector of social care, Springfield HomeCare has the potential for building possibly the largest fleet of smart cars in the UK.

Geoff Robinson, Managing Director of DFM, said: ‘This contract win is an excellent example of how different elements of the Daimler Group working together can produce an outstanding product supported by high quality service delivery.  Springfield performs a valuable service to the community and DFM is committed to offering our fullest support to their fleet operation.’
