DFM helps Shell Gas drivers in their hunt for treasure

May 2006

Daimler Fleet Management, the long-standing sole fleet management provider for Shell Gas (LPG), has co-sponsored Minis used for a treasure hunt at the company’s Driver Days at Telford.

In seven Minis, most of them open top models to soak up the sunshine, Shell Gas (LPG) tanker delivery drivers were launched on their way in an intriguing search for clues. The vehicles were used for treasure hunts at the Shell Gas Driver Days 2006, held at the Telford Whitehouse Hotel from 8 - 10 May. They were co-sponsored by the company’s vehicle funding solutions provider Daimler Fleet Management (DFM) in association with National Car Rental (NCR).

The Shell Gas (LPG) event was both motivational and informative. It offered a chance for a meeting and presentation to update drivers on current business developments and share information about aims and objectives. This year the emphasis was also on safety and security, both on the road and at customer sites, with Shell Gas working closely with the HSE (Health & Safety Executive), VOSA (Vehicle & Operator Services Agency) and counter terrorist advisers on presentation content. However, the Driver Days also provided the opportunity for enjoyable teambuilding activities.

These were centred on the two treasure hunts, each involving half of the 50 drivers participating in the Driver Days, which took place on the afternoons of 8 and 10 May. Starting from the hotel, they were designed to test the drivers’ teamwork, planning, map reading abilities, timekeeping, prioritisation, speed adherence and lead spotting skills and, for fun, their musical knowledge.

Richard Buggins, Operations Manager for Shell Gas (LPG) explained that the event was to thank drivers for their efforts over peak delivery periods.  “All our drivers work extremely hard during our busy winter period, so we reward them with a fun, work related activity to show our appreciation and acknowledge their commitment to our customers.  This year the activity was a treasure hunt, which we devised in conjunction with DFM and Box Telematics, and we very much appreciate the vehicles provided by DFM and National. The Minis are a lot of fun to drive and were ideal for this event and will have made a welcome change from driving tankers for the drivers.”
