DFM brings smart safety to Fire 2005

September 2005

Daimler Fleet Management, which supplies a fleet of liveried smarts for Cheshire Fire Service’s fire prevention and road safety campaigns, is carrying the smart message to Fire 2005 at G-Mex Centre, Manchester.

The Fire 2005 event at Manchester’s G-Mex Centre (2-3 November) will include an unusual exhibit - a smart fortwo liveried in Battenberg squares, the familiar “Blues and Twos” emblem of the UK’s fire services. The vehicle will be featured on the stand of Daimler Fleet Management  (DFM), which is currently leasing similarly liveried smart fortwos to the Cheshire Fire Service (CFS). These are providing an eye-catching attraction at CFS public roadshows promoting safety relating to traffic accidents.

DFM is convinced that the success of the CFS safety campaigns using smarts will be of interest to fire service personnel throughout the country, so Fire 2005 provides the perfect opportunity to make contact. Paul Harrop, DFM’s Sales & Marketing Director, explains that high profile vehicles such as smarts can have a major impact on public awareness.

“The experience in Cheshire has been very positive and the Cheshire Fire Service smart fleet is definitely contributing to the success of safety campaigns throughout the region. We understand that there has been interest from other fire services, which emphasises the importance of our attendance at Fire 2005. A representative of Mercedes-Benz Retail Corporate Sales Manchester will also be available on the stand to answer product questions and discuss sales enquiries.”

A leading fleet management provider of cars and light commercial vehicles from all leading manufacturers, DFM has supplied a fleet of 20 promotionally liveried smart fortwos under contract hire to Cheshire Fire Service. Two “Battenbergs” promote road safety in cooperation with the police, while the rest carry the CFS “BE SMART BE SAFE” livery and are used in a fire protection campaign targeting Cheshire’s elderly and vulnerable population with free fire safety checks and the installation of free smoke alarms.

Chris Turnock, the Deputy Chief Fire Officer of Cheshire Fire Service responsible for Risk Reduction, said that, as well as attracting public notice, the smarts were also economical and practical for urban driving. “As well as providing us with a competitive package, Daimler Fleet Management has offered us excellent service and demonstrated a genuine commitment to our campaign,” he added.
